Come take a tour of one of the oldest running power plants in Colorado. The Colorado Springs Utitlies, Birdsall Municipal Power Plant was built in 1953 and has the capacity to power 47,500 homes. Although it was designed to burn either coal, natural gas or diesel fuel, it has never used coal. This plant is moving towards well-deserved retirement by 2027 as we work to reduce emissions 80% by 2030.
Parking is directly north of the building and everyone will need to check in with security before entering the facility.
